Four speakers per earcup produce outstanding 5.1 surround sound. Enhancements made to the separate bass, front, rear and centre speakers mean that sounds coming from different directions can be pinpointed with almost total accuracy: hear an opponent creeping up on you from behind to the right or a car racing past you to the left. Three jack plugs are connected to the front, rear as well as subwoofer and center sockets, while one jack plug is connected to the microphone input. Power is supplied via the USB port. If no USB ports are available, the headset can be powered by the accompanying mains adapter. The Medusa NX 5.1 Gaming Headset can also playback music and audio from stereo sources without a problem.

The editorial team at the German magazine PC Games Hardware recently put the latest surround sound headsets through their paces. The Medusa NX 5.1 Gaming Headset was ranked Top Product and they rated it as being really good - giving it a score of 1.54. Here’s what PC Games Hardware said…
"Speed-Link Medusa NX: comfortably soft 5.1 earcups with very good sound quality For those who find the MMX 300 too expensive, the Medusa NX is the home-grown hero of our comparison test: the new Speed-Link headset will be available from March (we tested one of the first final releases) and cost 70 euros. It’s not cheap, but it’s worth every penny. We were able to locate the direction from which sounds were coming from well, just like with its predecessor the Medusa 5.1 Pro Gamer - this is made possible thanks to separate speakers for front, rear, centre and bass. Sound quality has been further improved: the Medusa NX plays bass notes with a little more detail than its predecessor and it even replicated the fine nuances of the highest pitch violin or trumpet sounds on the Forrest Gump soundtrack. The gaming impression we got playing the Crysis ‘Harbor’ map was also very good: the sound of explosions coming from either side gives you nothing short of a ‘get out of here!’ feeling and our shotgun went off with a bang like there’s no tomorrow. All this means the Medusa NX is the next best thing to the MMX 300 - and sounds somewhat more realistic on the whole than the Medusa 5.1 Pro Gamer. The earcups are practically the same shape, but not as thickly padded like on its predecessor. Despite that, the headset sits nicely - even after many hours. Speed-Link’s taken over the in-line remote and the long microphone arm, which can be positioned perfectly, from the old Medusa model. And along with jack plug to phono adapters, a case is also included."
